We Are Moving!

The JoyHouse is busting at the seams! We have outgrown the house! The JoyHouse is a home set up to provide shelter and support during crisis pregnancies. By providing a safe place to live, mentoring, and education, the JoyHouse will empower women and their children to escape lives of cyclical poverty and live successful, healthy lives.

In 2009, a young woman found herself pregnant unexpectedly. The father was not in the picture. She was told by her family that, in order to stay, she would need to have an abortion. She had no hope. She felt like she had no choice. In January of 2010, Jeremiah David was born, because this young woman discovered the JoyHouse. At the JoyHouse, she was given hope, and given a choice. She chose life.

Since then, several women have come to the JoyHouse to find a safe place for anyone needing guidance or direction in a crisis pregnancy. While there, they received the love, discipleship, and encouragement they needed to experience success in life and become good mothers to their babies.

On November 12th, the JoyHouse will relaunch in our new, 4700 sq. ft., 5 bedroom house. This new facility will have the capacity for up to 16 resident. Also, we will be able to house women who already have children. We are extremely excited about that as this is a tremendous need in our county.

The JoyHouse is not just a safe place to live. Members of the JoyHouse family will also take a host of classes that include life skills, job skills, and spiritual growth. Additionally, each resident will be paired up with a mentor who will coach them throughout the process. Upon graduation from the JoyHouse, these ladies will be able to live independently and create loving, nurturing homes for their babies.

Baby Girls Baby Girls

Here we go AGAIN!  The JoyHouse is hopping with anticipation and excitement!  The air is filled with LIFE.  We have two mommies both expecting sweet baby girls and very very soon.
It is a wonderful thing to witness the awesome work of God right before your eyes.  Thank you everyone for all your prayers and financial support.

YOU MAKE THIS ALL POSSIBLE.

THE JOYHOUSE

We are so excited about what is going on at the JoyHouse, our home for women in crisis pregnancy. First of all, renovations are nearly complete on the kitchen and mud room. This has added a ton of space for mommies and babies!  We are so thankful for all who worked so hard to make this happen. Second, a HUGE "Thank You" to Security First Baptist Church for hosting the Garage Sale fundraiser in October.  We raised enough money to cover just over two months of operating costs. And Third...We are graduating another family from the program! Candor and Cherish will be moving in to their own place this week! She is such an amazing young lady and we are so excited to see her embarking on this next adventure in her life. If you would like to see Candor's testimony, you can do so by visiting www.compassionunited.com/videos and scrolling down to "Candor's Story". Trust me...you will be blessed.  Also, if you would like to help Candor in this new adventure, there are still some needs.
cherish 2
1. She is in need of transportation. She has a total of five children so
it will need to be a minivan or SUV.
2. She is still a little short on move in money. If you would
like to contribute to help her out, you can do by going to our giving
page at www.compassionunited.com/giving and select
"The JoyHouse" in the dropdown menu.

The JoyHouse is supported by our Garage Sale fundraisers. We have
a storage building full of donated items but we need volunteers and
locations to set up and sell. Would you or your church be open to help coordinate a Garage Sale? We will handle all of the logistics. We just
need a place to host it and strong hands to move our donated items.
If you are interested, please contact info@compassionunited.com

Laundry Room Very Close to COMPLETION!

With the completion of this laundry room, the washer, dryer and deep freeze will be moved out of the kitchen. This will greatly increase our kitchen space making it possible for more than one pregnant person at a time to to be digging through the cabinets and refrigerator. They are always hungry you know.

All of the electrical and all of the plumbing and all of the air ducts are complete, thanks to Edward Stalling and Onno Krelage (Grace Int) and Billy Griffin (Freedom Fellowship) and Samuel Alison (Crown Covenant Church) and of course Don Mapston (Christ the King).  All we need is $540.00 for the insulation, drywall, mud, and plywood to complete this project.

If you would like to donate towards this room you can choose from the following ways to contact us.

Thank you!

"Changing lives, two at a time"

An Adoption Story by Jess Clark

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2012

tristan is two: an adoption story

Two years ago today, we spent the day in a hospital with the family that had chosen us to raise their son. We had sat through ultrasounds together, laughed over Chinese food and had met at the hospital late one night the previous week for a false alarm. This was the day, though, we all knew it. It was an emotional day, moving from laughing together to sitting quietly in the tension of the moment.

She had considered an abortion, she told us, but quickly decided she wanted her baby to be adopted instead. They sat with friends and family and looked through adoptive family profiles and unanimously chose us, because, they said, we seemed like real people, like we didn’t have it all together. I will always be grateful for what must be our obvious flaws, because they brought our son to us. :D

We walked the hospital, we ate together, and then once her epidural kicked in, she called for us to come and sit in her room. We made her laugh, we talked about music, about movies, about the baby. When his arrival was imminent, we waited in the hallway, tense, excited, trying to hold lightly to a baby that was ours but not ours, not yet. After an eternity, we heard him cry, and we cried too. He was precious, perfect, and we knew her heart was breaking.

Minutes later they wheeled him out to the NICU for his heart to be monitored, and they took a minute to let us see him. His grandmother asked the nurse to hand him to me, and in a second, in a single second, I was a mommy again and he was my baby. “These are the parents,” she told the staff, in an act of generosity that is beyond my understanding.

The next two days were a whirlwind of emotion, being family together, knowing these were their final hours with him. They had a relinquishment ceremony where they read blessings over Tristan and handed him to us, and we gave her an engraved necklace and a poem I had written, and again, we cried together.

People ask us why they didn’t raise him, and they had their reasons, some that I know and some I never will. I can say with total confidence that it wasn’t for a lack of love. They made a choice and they made it for him, to give him the kind of family they wanted him to have, despite it breaking their hearts. Over the last two years, we’ve met at parks and restaurants, exchanging texts and emails, and they have told us that seeing him with us reassures  them that they made the right choice, that they’re so thankful for us.

Today, my 2 year old woke up singing, and I am thankful. I am unbelievably thankful for a young woman and her loved ones who chose life for this beautiful little one, my singer. Happy birthday, Tristan! You are so loved.
